Japan’s most ugly bridge

Ladies and Gentlemen, and now I give you (drum rolls rolling) Japan’s Most Ugly Bridge:

Japan's most ugly bridge

Japan’s most ugly bridge

I found it right around the corner from the Yamba Dam Project, its another victim of bad planning and already a Haikyo…abandoned just after it was finished.

This monster made out of concrete was planned to be part of the new train line passing the new dam, but it just ends left and right of the bridge – there is no infrastructure, tracks or or any visible sign of a future train track on either side. They also removed any machinery they used to create this monstrosity.

There is nothing wrong with concrete constructions, but here they just went totally overboard…the poor neighbors who have to see it every day!

Japan’s most ugly bridge from the inside

The inside of the bridge looks more interesting, more like a high-speed tunnel and it would make an interesting model shooting location, but probably nobody ever really will see it. But the outside, ugh! Not even graffiti will make it more enjoyable!

Sure that ganja is illegal in Japan??

    Or too much videogames?

  2. You mean the architect? I guess he simply had some kind of shady contract with a concrete manufacturer…

    you know… i actually like it…
i love concrete and i love simple, minimalistic lines.
    this has both ;)

anyway, i’ve seen MUCH worse here in italy, trust me…
and, at least, ugly bridges in japan don’t crumble to dust at the first hint of a quake because they’re made of sand instead of concrete…

  4. I like it from the “inside” but from the outside its pretty much a monster. Also I am not so sure about the sand vs. concrete … not too long ago they “celebrated” 40 years of bid rigging for constructions in Japan…this means they are most of the time overpriced and under delivered…plus not really necessary.

But you make me very curious about Italy! The only country in Europe I never went to for some reason…

the inside looks like some kind of high speed track from a videogame. and that’s cool.
but it like the outside too! i mean, i think i wouldn’t mind seeing it on the horizon every day… :)

well… italy is a place of contrasts… there are amazing things and things you’d hate.
especially in southern italy, i can see an incredible cathedral and, across the streets, houses still bearing the signs of WWII bombings…
