Interesting Advertisement

While driving around, I saw this advertisement on the top of a roof.

At first I thought I was not seeing what I thought I saw, so I turned around, found a place to park and took a picture to make clear to myself that I saw what I thought I saw.

A hairy little secret

Whenever I take a taxi in Tokyo, I browse through the little advertisement flyers they have to offer…they are always somewhat special. This one I kept, its just too good to throw away.

A hairy little secret

The text on top says “Medical Laser Hair Removal” and the prices in green show how much it costs to remove hair from the individual body parts, while the violet speech bubbles compare it to the prices of “expensive underwear” (40,000yen), an “expensive watch” (630,000yen) and an “expensive handbag” (110,000yen).

I wonder if I just learned something?

Always these coincidences…

Until a few days ago everywhere in Tokyo you could see the posters for Sony’s new campaign “Playface” by marketing agency Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo and they reminded me of something, but I could somehow not place it…

Today I remembered…

I shot this series with the title “Video Games” back in 2003 also in Tokyo and even used a Sony controller…mhm, what a strange coincidence.

Update: But not even I was first, I communicated with Robbie Cooper who made this:

Then there is a similar brief sequence in Michael Jacksons video “Scream” from 1995, it starts at around 2:09.

Robbie Cooper mentioned even more “prior art”, but the most impressive one is probably this one called “Evidence”, also from 1995, where they show children watching Dumbo on TV and describe it as “Evidence looks into the eyes of children watching television – in this case Walt Disney’s “Dumbo”. Though engaged in a daily routine, they appear drugged, retarded, like the patients of a mental hospital[...]“.

Interesting stuff. All original ideas seem to be gone or just remakes of old ideas ;)
