The Online Photographer: A Leica Won’t Improve Your Photography

A good read: The Online Photographer: A Leica Won’t Improve Your Photography. I should send this to some people I know…but a comment at the bottom of the post brings it to the point “[...]but I know one thing for sure: never tell the guy holding the $7,000 camera that the gear doesn’t matter. ;)“.
I might sound so anti-Leica in this blog, but I am actually not, I just think what many others think but nobody likes to say in public: Leica is (gasp!) overrated. The post above really brings it to the point in a very nicely written way. Read also the comments from the link above for agreements and disagreements.
Leica is back…but for how long?

Leica just introduced the new M9 and X1 cameras and they write in their press release “Designed and made in Germany by Leica engineers, this camera is set to become a future classic.“. Uhm, I beg to differ…did nobody told Leica that digital cameras have an average shelf life of roughly 3 years before they are old and practically obsolete? Despite their very good coverage on all the big photo sites, I am skeptical. Even more by reading that they invited the journalists for 3 days on Leica’s costs to Solms, Germany. Well done Leica! Bribe always works! :)
Leica M9: The most compact full-frame camera?

The Online Photographer just published a visual comparison between the new (to-be-announced) Leica M9, the Panasonic GF1, the Olympus Pen, Nikon’s D700 and Canon’s 5D and the result is rather surprising. The M9 is really small.
